Ya, I'm really bad at keeping up with Blogs. That is my conclusion. I either have to be required to write...or have to have no job. I did these buttons back when it was relevant - early August. But never got around to writing the blog.

Anywho, the mustard one was for Mustard day and the Snake one is dedicated to my good buddy Jeffrey.

So, finally ordered my buttons parts, almost a year after gettin my buttonmaker. At this rate, expect to see buttons for sale, 2011 sometime.

Life is good. Logan just finished another show and things are picking up for Oomphotography. We are also making an unexpected trip to D.C. in October...October 30 to be exact. To join a small rally...

So,
Incase you aren't the one of a few thousand that I've mentioned this to, I'm originally from Mississippi. I've still got one side of my family down there. Yep, they did Katrina, and they are dealing with the oil spill now. Because of this, I was boycotting BP. This was until I had a good talk with my dad who works for a company that helps build machines for other companies. He said that BP was hiring shrimpers and those affected by the oil spill, to help clean up the oil spill. This, and other things that he said, made me think that maybe boycotting BP is not the best answer. Right now, no one can drill in the Gulf Coast and folks are losing jobs. Soon these jobs will come back and will hire inexperienced folks to help, which could cause another oil spill. So, while I'm not saying to completely change your mind about BP, because I still am not a huge fan of them, be a little more open minded to what is going on out there and stop listening to the media. (PS - also telling myself this).

It's very quiet outside right now...which I realize won't last long. My guess is that around noon, the smoke will be coming from all sides and the bomb-like fireworks will be shooting off everywhere. Must be the Fourth of July!

Incase you haven't seen a Chicago Fourth, allow me to explain, how should I put this...It's like there was a buy 1 get 100 free fireworks sale, but you only get the deal if you use them all today, and you have to shoot them off at all Chicago parks and your backyard. It's an awesome sight :).

I got a little lazy on the buttons this week. (Hopefully in a couple of weeks, I can tell you why...). But I couldn't let you down, so I made buttons dedicated to the number one reason why fourth of July is my favorite holiday...food and sparklers.

Well, it's been a crazy few months at the Conner household (when is it not). I'm sorry for leaving for so long. Honestly, still trying to get my files back together from the lack of a macbook. But this is also because I'm a tad lazy when it comes to finding files and I've had work ;). So...now...hopefully...buttonblog is back in full swing...provided nothing else breaks, gets stolen or dies...

Alright, Pride! So it's pride weekend here in Chicago. On Sunday I will be participating in the pride parade, should it happen as they are calling for rain. Whatever, I'm going to be there. You should go.

So, this design came to me a month ago. I'm not sure why it was this design, just...it just happened :) I wanted to make a button for Haiti that would be sold at my work. To many crazy things led to the button not happening, so I share it with you today :)

Lot's of crazy things has been happening since my last post! And I plan on touching on 4 of them!

First off, Conan. NBC, you've done a bad thing. I will admit that Leno is, at best, sometimes funny. But Conan is much better when he's aloud to do what he does best. You should have left him at 12:05 in the first place. But you guys seem to love being the worse network on TV, so there you go...here's your button. Don't **** up THE OFFICE. It's the only thing you have left.

I'm representing my train spot here :) On 2.7 the CTA (Chicago Transit Authority), laid off a lot of their folks because of the budget. (The only good thing to come out of this is that we don't have to pay more). I'm not entirely sure what the problem is here. There are very simple solutions to the budget:
1. FIRE those who aren't doing their jobs...there are several in this city.
2. Make seniors pay a quarter and students pay a little more.
3. No more freebie days
In the mean time, Chicago can help by using the CTA. I used it on Sunday, and the changes they made aren't really that bad. I heard from a good friend that it costs about 8 dollars per person to ride the buses and trains, so we get a pretty good deal. I mean, come on, the Metro was like $5 each way. Remember? So, ya, support the CTA, ride the trains/buses and let's see if we can get some jobs back.

So to very important things to discuss.
1. Conan. Incase you don't know, if they move Leno back to 11:35, Conan will step down from the tonight show. He's doing it, so he says, because he thinks that it if you move "The Tonight Show" from 11:35 to 12:05, it will ruin the best thing that's happend to TV. I don't know if there's anything we as an audience can do, but...Leno just needs to step down. He's been on far too long and the show isn't funny, or at least as funny as Conan. Honestly, NBC should have left Conan at 12:05, but now that they've screwed up, the best thing to do is drop Leno. Thoughts? Anyone know of a petition or something?

Another decade come and gone. I remember when we were all freaking out when 2000 came along. I was in DC, everyone was a little nervous, but happy. It turned midnight...the fireworks took a second too long to start in DC...then it started and we all were happy!

I don't know about you folks, but 2009 was a crazy, CRAZY year for me and Logan. I want to give a huge internet hug or *hug* to all of our clients - both graphic design and oomph's. Thank you to all of you folks who regularly visit abuttonblog. Incase you haven't heard me say this a million times, this was a life changing year. Logan and I didn't have jobs, well jobs that we could live on, until July and September. Then things just got so much better. Oomph is finally picking up, graphic design projects are going well. Logan is in a group called Awesomonster - a sketch comedy troup, I shoot pictures of wonderful naked ladies...and I'd like to you all to meet my new toy...I call him Benny.

Benny is a 2.5 inch BUTTON MAKER!! Look for new MAGNET AND BUTTON DESIGNS for sale in the next couple of months.

Now for the button. What better way to end the decade, with a button that just says...END.

I was planning on writing a very long stint about how easy it would be to fix the banking system if Obama, or whomever needs to do this, would just fire the bastards who keep screwing up. I was also going to complain about how because everyone is money hungry and there are too many stupid sheep in America, we will never had good health insurance. (and also, when you are about to kill our benefits, do not send a hot girl who is practically smiling because she knows how much she is making when she is screwing us over).

I think, though, these buttons pretty much sums is up. Obama, I love ya, but please do a better job next year. Business majors in school, don't be bastards when you graduate. And those in the health care industry and the Banking Industry....**** you. I'm sure you are nice folks outside of work, but you are worse than scam artists when you are working.

And just for good measure, I also included a tiger playing golf.

I love the holiday season, which for me starts 10.31. I love decorating the tree, the snow (I'm still newish to Chicago), the parties, seeing folks and of course the food. I know there are a lot of folks who agree with me...and I know that a lot of people disagree, and I totally understand why. As a urban archiealogist (I work at a thrift store) and someone who has been working in retail since 16, I've seen the worst in people around this time. They will shop and shop and are evil, it's awful. Then there's families, annoying parties...and of course the food.

Hey Everyone,

Well, it's been a great couple of weeks. Logan and I went home to Virginia. It was so much fun. We vegged out with my folks. Ate lots of food, watched TV, and napped. And went to Ihop for my birthday and met the craziest waitress ever. We then went to Logan's folks out in Amherst, VA. We played with farm animals, went antiquing and stayed in an old depression house - a house that was built during the depression era from the cheapest materials, which are 10 times better than anything used now. On our way back, we stopped in Louisville - awesome city!! I spent too much money, I'll leave it that.

Then we came back, I cleaned the closets, put up the tree and am now catching up on all of my lovely clients. And the Saints are 12-0 and it's about to snow a crap-ton. All is good ;).

Today's button is dedicated to my sister, as this is her quote, whist eating waffles.

Well folks, I'm actually early on my buttons this time. I'm about to go home to DC...and I'm actually going to try not turning on the computer for a few days so here is your thanksgiving button!

This has been a crazy year and I'm thankful for the lessons I've learned this year and I'm thankful that Logan and I have jobs. But right now, I'm mostly thankful for the fact that I'm going to see DC for the first time in a year and a half and eat some good food and watch football. And speaking of football, it's awfully awesome that THE SAINTS ARE KICKING SOME MAJOR BEHIND THIS YEAR! They rocked this weekend, they will rock next Monday night. Woot!

I'm not an Oprah fan. Not because I don't like her or anything, it was just on a 4pm on the weekdays when I was a kid...so I never watched it. But I got to give her credit because she basically invented the daytime talk show (along with Sally and Donahue), and created a decent production company...and her magazine isn't that bad. Althogh, I'd like to see someone else on the cover. I went to the season opener on Michigan Ave with my good buddy Mariscia. And not only was there an INSANE about of folks there, but the folks were pleasent, for the most part. They were all there to see Oprah, a women that most of the people around us literally grew up with.

So, while I'm not a fan of Oprah, I think she has done a lot for the entertainment industry and for Chicago for that matter.

However, I also hope Daley leaves office when she goes.

In my usual fashion, I'm late in the news. But I feel this is still relevant. About a week ago, Maine reconsidered their gay marriage laws, making it illegal for Gay men and women to get married. I had an interesting conversation with a co-worker who said that the only reason why it was considered to be legal in the first place was to make the politicians look good. Then the people voted against it.

FOLKS! (And I'm not just talking to Maine folks) WHAT THE HELL IS YOUR PROBLEM!? We all have a right to love whomever we want, have arguments that last all night and have tax breaks! I'm appalled that there are people in the world who think they have the right to decide who one can love. None of us have this right! If you want to argue with me, Bring it! In the mean time, take your head of your ass and back off. How about voting for something that will actually fix this country...like better health care, school systems...other things! AND BY THE WAY, YOU DON'T FOLLOW ANYTHING ELSE IN THE BIBLE, WHY START WITH THIS!? Bring it!

Yes, I realize that there are actual things in the world that are happening right now, but tonight I want to talk about a burger I had today. Now, I will start by saying that I am huge burger fan, but not so much McDonalds. I'm not a vegetarian by any stretch of the imagination, but I do wonder what exactly is in the burgers over there - to the point that it scares me enough not to eat there. However, I got the craving today after two co-workers brought in the familiar bag with the silly looking people and lame copy. (sorry guys, I think you as an agency is pretty cool, but come on...)

I ordered the most expensive thing they had - the new Angus Beef Burger. Oh my god, this burger is AMAZING. I didn't even ask for it to be special - everything on it. It was made on the spot, it was hot when I got it, it was juicy and the flavors where popping. I highly recommended going over there and trying one.

Alright McDonalds, maybe you don't suck as much as I thought you did.

Alright! Two weeks later and things are going fine! Or...better. Tonight just about raps up what I'm calling family visits the Conner's '09. (lame, I know). Last Monday, my mom and my sister came to visit and we saw pretty much everything that Chicago, Michigan and Wisconsin has to offer. We went to Holland, Michigan and played with goats, toured Chicago IL thanks for a very good friend - Ms. Elisabeth Taylor. Went to the House on the Rock - the most eclectic, crazy ass place I've ever seen in my life. And to the Science Museum. Very good, but cost to much. (This is coming from a gal who lived near the Smithsonian for most of her life). It was awesome! The button is dedicated to my family.

We now have Logan's brother over for one last night of hurra...or he's playing on the computer, Logan is at rehearsal and I'm working on this...Hurra!

In other news...I got a job. That's right, a bonified job with paid time off and benefits. And no, it's no where near the land of advertising and quite frankly...that's fine. I work at the Brown Elephant on Clark St. It's wonderful. The folks are wonderful. I get paid to go through stuff, price and play. And it's for such a great cause. Basically it's the Diversity thrift of Chicago.

EDIT: Sorry, forgot to explain for those not in Chicago. The downtown fireworks are always on the 3rd of July. Tonight I found out why. EVERYONE had fireworks tonight. Not just neighborhoods. Everyone. And everyone is still shooting off fireworks and having a party. Yay Chicago for coming through :).

First off, While walking on the North Beach in Chicago was quite fun, I'm very disappointed in the fireworks that Chicago has to offer. It was only 15 minutes. In DC, even in the suburbs, they are 30 to an hour. Also, make sure they are high enough for everyone to see. I had to work so we didn't get a chance to get into the city. But there were lots of folks around us, so we all couldn't be wrong.

Second off, Buttons! Happy Fourth Everyone. I hope it is going well for you. I am about to go work. Eh, it's a crafter's world and I'm framing in it :).

Now, I admit that I stole this idea from the great Arctic Palace who thought of this during Hurricane Isabel - but it's fitting. It rained. It rained a lot. It's still raining I think. Today as I was working on stuff and talking with my good buddy James Wood, ironically about how awesome my apartment is, the bathroom started to flood. It looked like we were in "The Ring," OMG. Then it started to flood in the kitchen, dining room, hallway and back closet. And it was coming from the walls!! Then the rain stopped...and it all went away. Leaving a big mess of dirt and me taking the day off. (Not happy about that).

And why did this all happen...because Chicago likes to shut off the pipes when there's too much water. That's why Chicago also flooded for 30 mintues.

Meet Brad. He is one of them Jack of all trades who really really really likes ice cream. Right now, I think, he is in Richmond from traveling to all sorts of places around the world. He's an actor, writer, director, runner of stuff, supreme ice cream maker and awesome.

Hey Everyone,

Yoza! It's been a busy week. I've been looking for jobs and going to reviews and talking to folks all week and am finally getting back to the good ol blog. Lots of news coming. In the mean time, back to the buttons.

Today's button is a little late, but still wanted to post it. This button is dedicated to Megan B's Cat who passed away a couple of weeks ago and to the mommys and daddys who who's children are their pets. Gracie was an awesome cat who was well loved and well photographed by Megan. I've been trying to find the right way to say this...hmm...I think the "human" world is so wrapped up into finding jobs, making the right moves, making money, Hulu...etc...that we forget about the main reason we are doing all of these things.. Eh, that's all I got.

You should stop whatever you are doing right now and hug your kids - human or other sort of animal.

Not that I didn't enjoy my wedding, but wow was it a lot of money - I mean like more than 100 dollars - and a lot of work. Word to the wise, don't plan a wedding, graduate and move all in a matter of 5 months.

These buttons are dedicated to my brother and soon to be sister in law, Ryan and Jennie. They are getting married on Saturday in Chicago. It will be good times and a lot of people - about 300. And lots of good food and lots of...Irishness and me in a pretty blue dress.

About 15 minutes ago, 5pm EDT, the VCU Brandcenter ended their annual recuriting session. The Brandcenter, incase you aren't a surviver of it/you haven't heard me talk about it, is a school for creative and business advertising out in Richmond, VA. (www.brandcenter.vcu.edu) At the end of the second year, the soon to be grads have a recuriting session that the best of the best agencies go to...sometimes looking for people...sometimes just putting feelers out. In case you are not hooked on the web and advertising junks as much as I am (which you shouldn't be cause I'm on way too much). Two dumbass employees of Domino's Pizza added their own special ingredients to a sandwich order. The video is now off YouTube, thanks to the female dumbass in the video, but you can read about it here: http://adage.com/article?article_id=135982. Honestly, I think throwing snot onto one's sandwich..and then recording that...actually makes them look worse than the company itself. But nevertheless, Domino's responded with this: http://adage.com/article?article_id=136015. Again, I don't really think this hurts the company that much, infact, I'm kindof thinking I might call them in a few minutes, but I'm glad that they got out there and defended the company and tried their best to apologize.

It's been a little busy this week, but don't worry folks a new button has arrived ;) The best thing about the spring holidays that fall around this time is the food. Good Friday ends Lint, which usually means that those who participate can now eat their favorite things again (my dad gives up soda - I tried this one year...couldn't do it).

Easter - Well ok, the baskets, chocolate hollow bunnies and story of Jesus is pretty cool. But it's usually the dinner that brings it all together. mmm...Potato salad..., my mom makes the best frekin potato salad...

Passover - My wonderful x-boss/Richmond mom invited me to passover one year. We read from the Torah (?) and then ate an amazing feast. Let me tell you, the Jews do it best.

Enjoy today folks (and if you are at Brandcenter right now, I know you can't stop, but take 10 minutes off). Hug everyone you see, eat well and realize how awesome the world is around you, now that it's not buried in snow. And if you're in Chicago, who knows, it might get warm one day!

AIG, Meh, or A little political thought.

Just in case you've lived under a rock, with no TV or internet, for the past week - AIG used bailout money to pay contracted bonuses and the public is a little angry. I've been going back and forth about how I feel about the whole event. The government gave money to these companies to save them, even though we probably need the money more than these companies...but they never gave the companies stipulations as to how to spend the money.

After reading this, I realized that we as citizens of America really need to look at ourselves in the mirror. (I say this based on the article and comments). It's just money folks. It seems that no one wants anyone to have anymore money than what they have. And everyone thinks they can decide how much money is too much money. Hell, $700,000 is a lot of money. But I have no idea what executives do. All I know is that if I got paid for the amount of work that I did last year at the Brandcenter, you best believe I'd be having a six digit salary coming my way, and I majored in Art Direction!

I created these buttons as two options that I feel could make America better. If you think that everyone should get paid the same for their jobs and treated the same way...if you think that someone's making more than what they should be, try Communism. I think that's one of the stipulations. And I'm not ragging on the ideas of Communism - there's some good ideas in there.

Or...we could try changing our own lives for the better. Obama isn't going to save the United States - he already said this. And the AIG incident will happen again. So why not just try fixing things in your own life and maybe, just maybe things will turn out right.

I admit that I don't follow politics as much as I should. John Stewart and Colbert are my news sources. And yes, sometimes the Onion. So you can take my opinions how ever you want. But if we don't start changing things, this country is pretty much doomed.

About a week ago, the graphic design world faced a huge fiasco. Tropicana changed their design from an orange with a straw, to a glass of orange juice. The orange juice world went nuts. And therefore, Tropicana is putting the original design back to what it was. Today's button is a tribute to the orange.

If you know me, you know my favorite animal is the guinea pig. Now that my husband, Logan, and I are finally at a point where we think we are staying Chicago, plans are being made to bring in two little guys. We are planning to adopt from a rescue shelter in middle Illinois.

Rodney and Squishy were our first piggys. They passed away a couple of years ago but they lived a good life eating hay, watching TV and sitting outside on our old porch.

I love buttons. I've been collecting for years - I think everyone has been collecting but they don't know it. I'm sure that if you take a look around your house you will find at least five metal backed buttons that you have either bought or got somewhere.

Thanks to the lovely economy, I have the opportunity to seek employment in other arts. I'm a graduate from the VCU Brandcenter with lots of hobbies including theatre and buttons.

I think I might have found a job of my dreams, a button company here in Chicago. But after meeting one of the awesome people who work there, I realized that I don't have any buttons in my portfolio. (ahem - www.cleeanderson.com) So why not add to my book, start a community and make people happy at the same time?

I'm going to try to create at least one button a week. Feel free to download - or drag over to your desktop - the buttons. If you have a button maker, the buttons are set to go. The website will go on the lip of the button. Or feel free to do what you want to with them, I recommend stickers.

All I ask is that if you make a button out of it, that you send me one (I am saving up for a button maker), or take a picture of whatever you do with it. Just don't alter it and use it for you own without asking.

These buttons are of course low resolution. If you are just printing from your printer it'll be fine. Let me know if you want a higher resolution copy.
